I mean… yeah. I am trying to be weird. I don’t have to try, but if you’re gonna do a thing you should do it properly, right?

Auntie Jill,
I have recently come across some claims that Goth is strictly a music subculture, and that if a person does not listen to goth music, they are not a *real* goth. I wanted to know your opinions on this, as someone with great knowledge on the gothic subculture and its history.
Sincerely,
A wee baby bat
- AHAHAHAHAH oh G-D the never ending argument … er, debate.
The short form of my opinion: Yes, the modern goth subculture sprung out of the postpunk music scene of the late 70s/early 80s. But part of the reason the subculture thrives to this day is that music scene went hand-in-hand with a specific aesthetic and artistic references.
And who is defining “goth music”? That umbrella term covers a LOT of sub-genres. There is no checklist of Bands You Must LIsten To In Order To Be Goth. (There isn’t, I will fight those who say otherwise.)
So. The goth subculture is strongly tied to music, but that isn’t the sole thing that defines the subculture.

–quinceañera girl with a dress bigger than the circle
–lots of kids but particularly the dude who’s doing the helicopter with his little girl
–an entire section of Millennials doing dance moves I recognize, oh the nostalgia

Because I know this website’s ability to read between the lines is ass, this is directed at people HIRED, PAID or SPONSORED (with money or other perks) to cosplay for promotion of struck properties and studios, whether that be at physical events or online (insta, tiktok etc).
This isn’t about you and your buddies cosplaying for fun at the local convention, so don’t go attacking random cosplayers not actually involved in content creation or promotion for these cretins.EVERYBODY PLEASE READ THE ADDITION

I already thought there was no cemetery creepier than a new cemetery but Forest Lawn ads only make it worse. Bad enough to see dead people “honored” with things that look like polyester prom decorations and to realize that some died so recently that you may have actually met them at a store or passed them on the street… but to have an ad saying they’re hiring that shows a woman who just can’t pass so much as a stray leaf without having to remove it so that everything is perfect… and then she sees a sad little girl and comforts her by giving her the realistic human doll that is apparently the kind of thing that Forest Lawn employees like to use as a rear view mirror decoration… Like this boneyard staffer was driving around with an 8” human figure swinging from her mirror at all times until the day she found a sad child bearing a shocking similarity to this poppet she had swinging around as a warning to others…
Ye gods. It’s broken me. I’ve packed one box too many and gone mad. I’m gonna take a shower and crash. Got a long drive tomorrow.
CGI animators should unionize next. normally, their jobs would be too precarious to strike, since studios would replace them without a second thought, but if it’s part of this larger general film strike, they might finally have meaningful power to better their working conditions
if CGI animators unionized, it would kill the MCU. straight up. the the entire business model is built on exploiting CGI animators
THEY ARE TRYING!!!!! SIGN THE PETITION TO GET THE DISNEY ANIMATORS’ UNION RECOGNIZED
this petition is from IATSE (union), btw! it actually has credibility, unlike most change.org/etc petitions! please sign it!!

The Camouflaged Looper: these caterpillars fashion their own camouflage by collecting flower petals/vegetation and using silk to “glue” the pieces onto their bodies
Though they’re often referred to as “camouflaged loopers,” these caterpillars are the larvae of the wavy-lined emerald moth (Synchlora aerata).
Camouflaged loopers deploy a unique form of self-defense – they snip off tiny pieces of the flowers upon which they feed, then use bits of silk to attach the vegetation to their backs. This provides them with a kind of camouflage, enabling them to blend in with the plants that they eat.
Some of them create little tufts that run along their backs, while others fashion a thicker camouflage that covers their backs completely. In some cases, the camouflaged loopers will even build much larger bundles that surround their entire bodies.
Their range includes most of North America (from southern Canada down through Texas) and they can feed upon an enormous variety of plants – so the disguises that these caterpillars build can come in countless colors, shapes, and sizes, incorporating many different flowers and other bits of vegetation.
And this is what the fully-developed moth looks like:
